What is Ventolin ?
Anti-asthmatic Ventolin is widely used in the treatment of respiratory diseases. Inhalation with this drug helps to eliminate the manifestations of bronchiolitis spasm in the patient.
Release form and composition
There are 2 types of this drug on the market:
- Nebulae. Is used for inhalation with a nebulizer. In this form of the drug, the Solution is in special transparent capsules of small volume. Sold in a pack of Cardboard. There are packages for 10, 20, or 40 nebulas.
- Evohaler. The drug is contained inside a special inhaler. A small cylinder of the Device is a medicine designed for 200 doses.
It is also sold in cardboard packages, where there is one balloon.
Indications for use
The instructions for use, which are in each package of the drug, provide comprehensive information about possible indications for use. But only the attending physician should prescribe treatment with this medicine. He can assign you a remedy for bronchial asthma (the remedy can prevent an attack) or chronic lung diseases.
Ventolin for inhalations for children may not always be used. It is contraindicated in children under two years of age, but in some cases, it is prescribed as early as 1.5 years. Starting from this age, the drug can be used, but in smaller dosages. Children who are not yet 18 months old are rarely prescribed because its effect on children of this age is still poorly understood.
Most often, pediatricians prescribe the drug for a short period. When prescribing, the doctor takes into account the age of the child, the degree of complexity of the disease, and possible side effects. The duration of treatment also depends on many factors and is prescribed individually.
Adults are credited with Ventolin less often than children, they take the drug in large doses. The frequency of use and duration of treatment are also prescribed by the doctor depending on the complexity of the disease.
It is forbidden to take ventolin in parallel with non-selective beta-blockers (elements that interfere with the work of catecholamines, which are most often used in cardiology).
This drug is not recommended in the presence of thyrotoxicosis, because they can increase the developing tachycardia. When combined with cardiac glycosides, Ventolin can increase the likelihood of arrhythmia in a person. And taking Theophylline together with Ventolin is fraught with the development of tachyarrhythmia. It is also worth remembering that the drug has a strengthening effect on funds that are engaged in stimulating the Central nervous system.
Pregnant women should also be very careful about taking the drug. After all, in some cases, the mother may show weak labor activity due to the use of medication.
In General, contraindications to the use of the drug are as follows:
- high sensitivity to the elements used in the tool;
- use in parallel with incompatible drugs;
- severe hyperfunction of the thyroid gland;
- presence of any cardiovascular diseases;
- tendency to epileptic seizures.
Side effects can manifest in different ways. Allergic reactions or headaches may occur. Less often, Ventolin causes tachycardia, hyperactivity, or mucosal irritation.
This portable inhaler is used for mild forms of diseases. The device is easy to carry and use anywhere and anytime. And its volume is enough for a long time of use.
How to make aerosol inhalations?
Aerosol devices should be used as follows:
- when using it for the first time, you should remove the cap from it, slightly pressing the edges on both sides;
- take the balloon in your hand so that its bottom is on top;
- wrap your lips around the mouthpiece (do not fix it with your teeth);
- take a deep breath with your mouth;
- hold your breath a little and gradually exhale;
- next time, you can inhale the solution after 30 seconds.
Solution for inhalation
To use Ventolin (inhalation solution), you need a special device-a nebulizer. The medicinal liquid consists of the drug itself, diluted with a certain amount of saline solution. Vapors of the resulting consistency will be inhaled through the nebulizer tube. Often the process itself takes no more than 10 minutes. During the use of inhalation equipment, the room should be well ventilated, and the patient should be supervised by a doctor.
Very rarely, the drug is prescribed with non-diluted ventolin. Such procedures are used in severe cases to obtain a more powerful and rapid effect. With such inhalations, the process lasts up to 5 minutes.
How to breed?
Ventolin is diluted in a solution of sodium chloride. Initially, the dosage is 2.5 mg, but later it may change depending on the patient's health. You can dilute the medicine and make inhalations no more than 4 times a day and no more than 5 ml.
As an alternative to ventolin, you can use drugs that use salbutamol as the active substance. Among the analogs, the most popular are Astalin and Salamol.
The following list of drugs can be attributed to analogs of the drug:
- Advair Diskus
This list also contains a similar effect of treatment (drugs to astrotherapy).
Terms and conditions of storage
Store ventolin only in the original packaging in a place that is protected from sunlight and strong temperature changes. It is also worth remembering that the optimal temperature is no more than 30 degrees. When frozen, the drug Ventolin becomes unusable. The drug is stored for 2 years, but after the aluminum foil has been opened, it can be stored for no more than 3 months. The solution contained in the nebulizer must not be reused after use.
Conditions of leave from pharmacies
The product is sold in most pharmacies. Ventolin is available without a prescription, but consultation with a doctor before use is mandatory.
