Chale! Medics Abroad Summer Electives Are Coming To Accra, GHANA!

Reading Time: 3 minutes

CHALE!!! Have you heard the good news? Medics Abroad is headed to Accra, Ghana this year!!! Isn’t that exciting? We’ll have groups of students in East Africa (Malindi, Kenya) and West Africa at the same time!

The main goal is to ensure that aspiring and qualified medics can carry out electives and volunteer in hospitals all over Africa! We are definitely on the right track with Accra! And here are a few reasons why:

  • The Republic of Ghana extends from the Atlantic Ocean, by way of the Gulf of Guinea which lies on the Western bulge of Africa. Togo lies to its east, Cote d’Ivoire to its west, Burkina Faso to its North, and the ocean to its south! Fun fact: you can draw a straight line from London to Ghana on a world map!
  • Accra, it’s capital city, lies on the country’s southern coast! So you can imagine how vibrant and beautiful it is! Ghana’s beaches are loved by tourists, and thankfully, we’ll be offering beachfront hotel accommodation along the coast for the Medics Abroad elective this year! *wink*
  • According to the Global Peace Index, Ghana is the most peaceful country in Africa, and 40th in the world! Ghanaians are also widely known to be some of the friendliest and most hospitable people!

That’s why our elective is inclusive of many cultural activities, to ensure that our medics get the pleasure of meeting and interacting with the people of Ghana, within and outside the hospital. Some places we’ll be visiting include:

Cape Coast

Kakum National Reserve

  • We’re excited to be partnered with a tertiary hospital in Accra, that is renowned for its exceptional doctors and facilities. This is to ensure that Medics on the elective get substantial exposure to a wide range of medical and surgical specialties, including tropical medicine.
  • All the participants of our elective will also have the opportunity to get involved in our International Community Engagement (ICE) program. We will be aligning and working closely with the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects (SEHP). This is the official not-for-profit organisation that is founded and run by the second lady of Ghana H.E Samira Bawumia. Amongst its causes are various public health projects, including the ‘Safe Delivery’ Initiative.

We’re so excited about our new location! If you’d like to join us on our upcoming exciting Summer Adventure, check out our packages here! Fill out the application form and you’ll be one step closer to a life-changing clinical experience, and of course the beautiful beaches of Accra.

We can’t wait to see you!!! Akwaaba!!!
